The King and Queen of Spain

The President and First Lady of Portugal together with the King and Queen of Spain visit the Royal Savoy Hotel

During the recent first visit to Madeira Island, the King and Queen of Spain visited the Royal Savoy Hotel. In fact, through a dinner invitation by Portugal's President Anibal Cavaco Silva and his wife, Maria Cavaco Silva, who were staying at the Royal Savoy, we were honoured to receive at our hotel King Juan Carlos accompanied by Queen Sofia. The Spanish Royals commenced this way their three-day official visit to the Island of Madeira, an historic opportunity for Madeira and Spain to create stronger economic ties and help increase Madeira's popularity, contributing to the touristic promotion of the Madeira Island destination in Spain.

Present to welcome these high dignitaries to the Royal Savoy Hotel, were senior hotel management and members of the board, including the President of the board, Comendador Horácio Roque.

The two Figures of State and respective wives, enjoyed an intimate and befitting meal created especially for the occasion, where a selection of regional delicacies were served; the famous and traditional Madeira hand embroidered linen adorned the dinner table, whilst fresh white Anthurium flowers made the perfect centrepiece and a rich Madeira wine was inevitably served as an after-dinner digestif. No details were spared and following the specific instructions of the Civil House of the Portuguese Presidency.

Accustomed to enthusiastic events, the Royals attract sympathy and at the end of the evening, they highlighted the quality of service and all the attention they had been afforded during the memorable occasion.

Being "Royal" by name and accustomed in welcoming European Figures of State, we at the Royal Savoy Hotel now have a stronger reason to bear this distinguished identity.
